101

I’d forgotten what true heat feels like. True heat and 85% humidity that is.

All ready for some after lunch rockin.

This venue inculded a resturant with wonderful food, and a persistant inclination to feed us. Eternal gratitude.

They even let us into the secret “cool spot”

Which was, in fact, a walkin freezer. Felt amazing.

Now it’s goodbye Flordia and hello three days off in New Orleans. I wonder if I can find anything to do.

Tonight was an epic. Not “epic” like surfers say, but rather “an epic” in mountainclimber parlance. You don’t plan for an epic, an epic just happens. And if you do what you do long enough, you will have one.

In this case it consisted of a monitor system that completely went down durring the second song. And when you’re not carrying any amps you’re entirely dependent on the monitors for everything. Quite fun that. Won’t even talk about foh but that was equally fun.

You may have noticed a decrease in the amount of my posts. This is due to a problem I realized. Most clubs don’t have their systems working 100%. Being a very demanding band we usually find one or two small squirelly problems in allmost any system. But on some days everything comes crashing down. I decided to not post negative comments on each club I go to. Instead I’m focusing on the positive.

I was quite perplexed by what seemed to be a bicycle lane on flordia highways.

It was only later that Julia pointed out that it was a motorcycle lane.

Ok subs on an aux is very usefull. And Dave Rat style tweeters on an aux is fun too. But how about DJ pa on an aux?

A number of clubs we’ve been playing are dance clubs and have dance speakers. Usually in the form of small boxes pointed inward on all walls.

Whenever possible I’ve been using this to my advantage by sending the tracks or effects to this system instead of the mains. It’s gives a surreal surround experience. This night I even ran Monicas vocals through it, and thanks to a specialty delivered OM7, were quite loud with no eq.

Yay, it worked.

Now for an exciting drive to Jacksonville.

Day off in Atlanta and it is hot. Feels amazing after the chilliness of Cleveland and New York. A bit too tempting to spend the day sitting in the hotel though. A shopping excursion should remedy that.

So apparently the Holland tunnel does not allow trailers of any kind. We found this out the hard way. 1.5 hours later we found ourselves inside the city and only 2 hours late to soundcheck. No time to do things properly, a quick linecheck and it’s time for the opener. Nonetheless mixed a great show on the Soundcraft V6.

Found out i’m not that far from home.

Another riviting drive

And we’re in Canada.
The venue had ample parking for load in

I had an idea involving traffic management.

Pretty interesting venue

And a quick 8 hr drive through super troopers territory and were back

On the road to New York

Spirits are high!

Being told this one one of the best shows yet. Was quite worried at first due to a late start on loadin, a crazy crosspatch, and a crazy crazy mix position. The board was on a platform suspended from the roof and accessed by a 20 ft high, railless catwalk. But Joe rocked it and everything sounded great.

In the heartland now

Another massive day of driving and we’re in Omaha. Of course we arrive at 7:30 pm, load in was 4pm, soundcheck was 6pm, and doors are at 8. But Jay the soundguy had his system running perfectly and we were up and running by 8:30. Amazing system amazing show and we’re off to the next town.

A small string section (it’s allways the cello).

Get to sleep in tommorow.

Driving.

The word has a whole new meaning. Today we did a 9 hour drive then came to the venue and did a show. Next time you see artists on stage consider how they got there.

There are a large quantity of tv and inside jokes. And inside jokes about tv. This appears to be the only means of survival.

Exciting road signs and the scrambling to take photos that shortly ensues.

Another 220 miles and we’re in salt lake city.

Some attempts at spreading out

Long car rides lead to some interesting sitting techniques.

There was a rock show

And there was packing up a rock show.

Now it’s time for 18 more shows in a row.
